Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is basically all about getting your website found and gaining new enquiries or sales for your business. It is alleged that 70-80% of your new business should come from the internet. People’s index of first resort is now an internet search engine, and 70% of all searches are made on Google.
Six months ago I had little idea what an SEO expert did, and now I are one!
I have done such a lot of learning.
Masses of reading.
I have been following and reading up to 180 blogs, often reading 100 plus Posts per day.
There’s been a definite sense lately as I have been reading this material of ‘diminishing returns’ i.e. learning less, because I now already know lots.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t know it all – nobody ever will, and I am a strong believer in continuous learning.
By the way, Blogs are a great learning resource, if you can sort the wheat from the chaff then you will find a huge amount of really topical (I mean bang-up-to-date) information from sector experts shared online.
I have also recently read at least one blog post citing how newbies to web optimisation often suffer from paralysis by analysis – that is to say that they continue to seek the silver bullet for so long that they fail to get around to actually creating and publishing content.
I think that I now have WordPress in particular pretty much sussed. I wrote a post for a client the other evening and eight minutes later when I checked it appeared on page 1 of Google.
That is essentially what it’s all about.
If you can pimp a site enough that Google quickly indexes what you write, then all you then have to master is to write about what people are looking for – that is where your Keyword Research comes in, and I shall tell more about that later.
So, from now on, a little less analysis, and a lot more doing for me and my clients.
I need to cull my reading list, so that I only follow the real topical luminaries [great word] (look out for a few more of those appearing in my blog roll in the right sidebar once I have determined them).
If I can help your business to be found, please get in touch.
{Caveat – nobody can offer you page one on Google, the above result is simply an individual proof of concept case}
